My specialty is working with teenagers, educators, fellow grievers, women, fellow travelers, and those in recovery. Spiritual seekers, mindfulness enthusiasts, etc. Those who realize we must slow down in order to do good work. Those who realize we need to put on our own oxygen masks before we can help others.

As an educator for the last 31 years (10th and 12th grade high school English students), I know the power of connection.

Over the last three decades, I have prioritized building connection and community in my classroom. This, and the importance of mindfully checking in with ourselves--these practices are essential before anyone can learn in a safe space.

And this not only applies to high school students, but to any human struggling through and trying to prosper in this "brutiful" life as writer Glennon Doyle calls it —both brutal and beautiful.

I hope to be of service in many ways. To help others with something as simple as running an old-school English tutoring session (minus the AI!), to helping with writing or with speeches, to giving motivational speeches, to sharing mindfulness for educators, sports teams, etc., to offering yoga, Reiki, sound bath meditations, and to any form of self-care...

I can also provide guidance on writing and self-publishing as this was the process I followed for both of my children's books, Lily the Ladybug Lifeguard and Empathetic Emmy, both written in conjunction with my two daughters.

Mindfulness and yoga and journaling for rising seniors looking to do college essays--these are all some of my specialties. I have also worked with the elderly and am chair yoga certified.

Please reach out! I am available for small and large group speaking engagements and workshops.

Still to come in the future will be daily and weekend retreats to "fill up our cups" and to build connection and community around any topic of your choosing.

I can’t wait to connect with you!

I

I am a certified yoga instructor (Crossroads 200 hour RYT, Soul Space Yoga and Wellness, Plantsville, CT) and certified Yoga Alliance instructor since 2018.  In winter of 2018, I began a free, community class at the high school at which I am a full-time English teacher.  The class serves teen students, teachers, and staff members and centers on a theme, music, breathing, and mudras to bring peace and inner happiness. I have also served as a substitute teacher of gentle yoga at YogaSpace in Bethel, CT and at BeYoga Danbury, while also having taught classes at the Bethel Farmers’ Market and Aquila’s Nest Vineyards for two summers. I am proud to have volunteered my yoga teaching at Ann’s Place in Danbury, CT which serves cancer patients and their families. As of September 2023, I also completed my Reiki Level One training, with plans to continue to Reiki Two as well. Most recently, I received my Sound Meditation training at The Jiiva Center in Shelton, CT (10/2025).

My goal is to encourage self-care and wearing our "own oxygen masks" before we can attend to others.  By nurturing time, our breath, working on mantras and mudras, and by aligning with our inner divinity, we can all shine our light in the world and encourage others to do the same.  I began yoga with prenatal classes when I was pregnant 19 years ago with my first child, our son Samuel. I continued the journey at Naam Yoga CT in Bethel, CT, loving this offshoot of kundalini yoga.

I have also completed a chair-yoga certification class as well as a ‘mindfulness for youth’ class, and Youth Mental Health First Aid. Further, I created and am teaching a Mindfulness class at my high school (“Mindfulness Through Literature: Studying the Masters to Live your Best Life”), which I hope to offer at other venues in the near future.  I also taught a one-day version of this Mindfulness class via zoom to incoming students in her district and elsewhere in August 2022. Finally, I led a Dream Boldly conference session entitled “The Importance of Play, Mindfulness, and Journaling to Bring About Your Dreams.”

When off the mat, I am grateful for time with my family (husband, son, two daughters, and doggie Reggie), walks in town, hikes with my family, reading, meditating, and helping others. I have also authored my children’s book entitled Lily the Ladybug Lifeguard in 2020, inspired by my second child, Lily, following the theme of helping others with love and compassion, as we all need “lifeguards” to watch over us.  My second book, Empathetic Emmy, inspired by my compassionate second daughter, is also in the works. My passion is igniting the light and passion in others. You can find info on me by also following me on Instagram at allison.z.ferrier and at aliwaytojoyandsuccess. Hugs! <3
